Privacy Policy

The New York Crime Victim Legal Network partner organizations are committed to your privacy. It is important to us.

Our privacy policy describes how we collect and use information about you. This policy doesn't apply to other sites you reach through crimevictimshelpny.org. You should read the privacy policies of other Web sites to learn how they collect and use information about you.

LiveHelp

This site uses Comm100 to provide LiveHelp chat services on this site. While you do not need to give LiveHelp agents any personal information to use LiveHelp, Comm100 collects information, such as:

  • information about the computer, browser, and Internet Service Provider that you use,
  • the date and time when you visit, and
  • the pages on Crimevictimshelpny.org that you visit.

As of the last time we updated this policy, when you chat with a LiveHelp operator, Comm100 stores a copy of that chat on its service, as well as the answers to any survey questions the chat asks you. Comm100 uses the information it collects according to the terms of its own Comm100 Privacy Policy (see particularly #10, “User Data”).

Please only use this tool to ask for help finding information on the site or to describe in general terms the kind of legal information you are looking for. LiveHelp operators cannot act as your lawyer and if you give them information that identifies you, the other parties, or the particular court case, they may not be able to keep those details confidential from other people involved in your situation, depending on the legal rules in your location.

How do we use the information that we collect?

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to others. Pro Bono Net and its New York Crime Victim Legal Network partners may use the information:

  • to train website specialists
  • to evaluate LiveHelp
  • to report on the project's success
  • to inform the development of new resources and tools for people in need of legal assistance
  • to perform other administrative tasks.

Fields containing identifying information such as your email address will be removed before the information is used. We will only use your email address if you have given us permission to contact you later or requested that a transcript of your chat be emailed to you. Please do not share any information in the chat that could be used to identify you, as we cannot guarantee that personally identifiable information contained in the chat transcript will be removed before using it for the purposes listed above.
